What cost more, the titantic, or the film about it?
The Titanic released in 1997 was a massively successful film winning 11 Academy Awards and providing the ‘launchpad’ for Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio.
This success did come at a cost though, around $200 million, some of this cost was due to the construction of some of the ship itself.
When the Titanic was built around at the famius Harland and Wolf yard in Belfast during 1910 to 1912 the cost was estimated at $7.5 million. When inflation is taken into account the cost would have been around $120 – $150 million in 1997.
Taking this into account the film cost between $80 and $50 million more than the actual boat!
